Got my first phils today....
Up until now i have bought maples, krugs and eagles. It's been about a year or so since I made a good size purchase and the wife wanted to pick the coins out this time, she decided on phils. I really like them, good looking coin. She bought several one ounce gold phils and a couple 1/10th phils to even the order out.

I loved it so much in gold I couldn't wait for the silver - bought a few rolls! Cheers! |
Re: Got my first phils today....
As gold coins go I love them.
No idols, no old dead politicians or kings. Very nice coins!! |
Re: Got my first phils today....
I like them too. I have quite a few.

Re: Got my first phils today....
They are one of the best looking silver coins around IMO. I like the shiny polished rim.

Re: Got my first phils today....
I don't own any Phils; I hear there are 90% counterfeits out there.

But I don't own them because I'd rather have a manly Kruggerand than a coin with "Weiner" on it (no offense, OP) |
Re: Got my first phils today....
I don't like gold which scratches easily.
I like to wear it on a chain around my neck. |
Re: Got my first phils today....
Yea I like the fact that both sides of the coin are interesting. I don't have a Fisch for the Phills (i'm not even sure they make them) so I would never buy one out in the wild, but i've never been screwed by Bullion Direct so I figure I'm safe.

nice Phils I really like them too and sounds like you got a good stack going!

Re: Got my first phils today....
I really like the look of the 1 oz gold Phils, maybe it's the larger diameter than the other bullion coins? It's odd though, I prefer the look of SAEs over the silver Phils.

Re: Got my first phils today....
LOL! Sorry guys, in re to my previous post. I just realize I completely mis-read Light's "90%" post. I read it as: 90% of the Phils are counterfeit!!! A completely unreasonable concept, I know... but it was pre-morning coffee. I've got one in me now, and my brain is back in action. Thanks.:15_1_70v:

Good choice
You dont have that Ghoul on the Back of Honest Money. T |
Re: Got my first phils today....
I picked up a fractional gold coin awhile back. Not bad.
I remember reading another thread with an article stating that the Gold Philharmonic was the best selling coin in the world for the final quarter of 2008! I'll see if I can find it. Future increase in premiums? :coolbeer: |
Re: Got my first phils today....
I don't like the silver eagles all that well, I dunno why. I have some silver buffalos that I bought from Apmex that are my favorite silver. The highest number of coins I have are in Maples, the only reason for that is at the time I bought them it was the only thing the local dealer could get in any quantity so I just ended up with them, they aren't really my favorite, but gold is gold I guess. I started buying in 2001 and I was not into ordering online at the time so I bought what I could buy locally. Since I've ordered quite a bit from bulliondirect and apmex and been very happy with both.

I like the philharmonics also. The 2000 schilling ones are my favorite plus they are the highest denominated one ounce coins on the planet.

I don't remember offhand, Outlaw may be right but I thought it was earlier. I'll google it.
Yes, Outlaws "gut feelings" were correct, 2002 they changed to Euro. |
